I’ve always loved the look and feel of the Seiko Alpinist—especially the original design without the Cyclops, which is harder to find in newer models. I also enjoy tinkering with watches, so getting to build my own version was a real treat. I love wearing it—not just for how it looks, but also because it often sparks conversations that lead to sharing my passion for watchmaking.
That said, I did run into a bit of trouble when I lost one of the caseback screws, which meant I couldn’t wear the watch for months. I searched everywhere for a replacement and finally reached out to Namoki for support. They were super helpful and understanding, and I really appreciated their support.

I really like this Bezel on my Orient. It took a watch I was rarely wearing to something I’ll be putting on almost daily now.
I’ve built over 5 the Namoki custom watches using their custom cases, bracelets, chapter rings, exhibition case-backs, hands and dials. Cases ranging from the BB58, Alpinist, Engineer and Nautilus MK2. All have been amazing, but the Nautilus MK2 might be my favorite. The quality is amazing, and as I love a chapter ring, this version is my favorite. I have built two which both came out amazing. Fairly easy build. After the Sakura build, I had several coworkers drooling where one asked me to build him one with the Tuxedo dial which came out insane. Although a larger case diameter, it sits comfortably on my wrist as I usually don’t go over 40mm. Namoki’s customer service is outstanding which is worth mentioning as theres been a handful of times I ordered the wrong item, needed to change my order, or had questions that were resolved within 48 hours or less. This is important to add as my customer service experience with other companies have been non existent/never get a response. Highly recommend this case and all Namoki products.
Seiko modding trends come and go, but a few iconic designs get so ingrained in our memory that we can now consider them timeless classics that will never go out of style, no matter how many times we build them.
The release of the SKX007 was truly a blessing to watch fans all over the world, giving birth to Seiko modding, and allowing many of us to create our own perfect watch. Seiko’s second biggest gift to us is arguably their release of the SSK001, SSK003, and SSK005 back in 2022.
While traditional sterile dials still provide visual reference points for hand alignment and timekeeping, a fully blank Seiko mod dial requires more careful planning. Every design choice -from hand selection to case pairing - must compensate for the lack of markers while maintaining functionality.
