Let’s take a brief look at Omega, and where the Omega Seamaster came from! 

The Beginning of Omega 

In 1848, the first proto-Omega watches were made in a small watch shop in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland by Louis Brandt. After a range of achievements helped establish the company’s place in the watchmaking industry, the brand hit the world stage with a new name.

Some of these achievements included the release of its first mass-produced caliber movement called the Labrador and the launch of the 19-line Omega Caliber. The watch brand rebranded itself as Omega Watch Co from its original brand, which was Louis Brandt & Fil.

Omega Seamaster

Introduced in 1948 to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary, the Seamaster is one of the pillars of Omega’s lasting collection. Originally, the watch was a humble dress watch that happened to be dust and moisture-proof. It was modeled after watches designed by Omega for use during WWII, adopting their ruggedness but featuring a dressy appearance.

The original Seamaster was targeted at gentlemen. Its design was to stand up to the rigors of daily life. 

With the appearance of the Seamaster on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan in the hit James Bond film GoldenEye in 1995, the watch brand became the official watch of the Bond movie franchise. To date, the Seamaster is one of the world’s most symbolic watches, which is associated with 007 and the adventures of the world’s most famous spy.

The evolution of the Seamaster is proof of the human spirit that never stops rising higher, faster, and especially deeper.

Seamaster 1948 – A Forgotten Beauty

Seamaster 1948 Heritage was introduced in 2018 as an anniversary piece to commemorate the launch of Omega’s first official line, the Seamaster.

Omega proves its watches are extremely reliable and water-resistant as over 100,000 watches were supplied to the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) during World War 2. 

The Seamaster 1948 stainless steel case is 38.4mm wide and 12.3mm thick with sapphire crystal on the front and back. The bezel and the top of the lugs are polished, while the sides are mainly satin.

When flipping the watch over and having a look at the case back, you can find the 70th-anniversary commemorative design etched in the crystal by laser ablation which is a Chris Craft boat and a Gloster Meteor aircraft. 

In the illustrations, the plane depicted was the very first jet plane used by the Royal Air Force and the two vehicles represent the servicemen who served in the air and on the sea while wearing this Omega Seamaster on their wrists.

Although the Seamaster 1948 is not a bold or flashy watch, it has many, classy, subtle details. Sadly, this significant anniversary’s beauty then may be overshadowed by another line, the Omega Seamaster 300M.

Seamaster Planet Ocean – An Everyday Sporty Luxury Watch

Another series that has been a huge success for Omega is the Seamaster Planet Ocean. Not only is it undeniably luxurious, but the Seamaster Planet Ocean’s sizes, state-of-the-art materials, and versatile styling have also lifted it into the category of a modern icon of watchmaking.  

Built on the Seamaster legacy that stretches back to 1948, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M has become an instant icon and is recognized as one of the best dive watches on the planet. The collection has been upgraded throughout three generations and has also seen many limited editions.

The Planet Ocean collection is diverse in its offerings. There are multiple case sizes and material options, 600 meters or 2,000 feet of water resistance, and helium escape valve, as well as, time and date, chronograph, and GMT models available. The aesthetics of the watch also received some updates by appearing with ceramic and Liquidmetal bezels. 

The most recent upgrade to the line features Master Co-Axial movements which improve the watches’ magnetic resistance up to forces above 15,000 gauss. With this upgrade the watch received a coveted METAS’s Master Chronometer certification. This signifies that a watch is highly precise and excels in many factors.

Seamaster 300M – A Classic Dive Watch

The Seamaster 300M is a vintage re-edition of the iconic 1957 watch along with a Master Chronometer-certified movement, the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8800.

The Seamaster Diver 300M line has slowly gained popularity, especially in the enthusiast community. The watch is a 42mm stainless steel dive watch that has the “just right” sizing category. Its brilliant white polished ceramic dial features the etched wave pattern that has been emblematic of the Seamaster since 1994. The bezel has Arabic numerals marked at ten minute intervals. Also, a helium release valve is at 10 o’clock.

The Seamaster Diver 300M completely lives up to its name as it is a one-stop watch for all things maritime underclass and style.
